08 Jun How to Reach Your Business Income Goals
Goal setting is a powerful tool to help you fuel your business and help you to reach the next level of income. I was the featured Successful Active Woman this week and it reminded me how big of an impact goal setting has had on my success in life.
I am not sharing this with you to brag. I just to show you how this powerful tool can help you to get to where you want to go in life. I think that dreaming big is the first part and the second part is having the plan to get there.
In 2014 I made and achieved my goal to lose 80 pounds, in 2015 I made a goal to start an online business. In 2016 I made a goal to start a new online business and replace my income at my corporate job while working from home and I was able to do that as well (and the year is not done…which I have some more goodies up my sleeve you will have to stay tuned for).
When I work with mompreneurs who struggle with goal setting or being where they want to be in their business, they usually set these goals for either the whole year or 90 days and then it ends there. And you want to avoid the common mistakes of goal setting.
Let me just say, my pet peeve is when people say I just decided I would do it and I did it. Or when people say I just decided to do it and I did.
That’s not AT ALL how it happens for me!
For me, it’s about doing something every day that is going to get me closer to my goal. This will be really unique to your individual goal but here is an example.
So let’s say you have a goal to make $1000 this month. Your package is $500 so this means you would need to sell 2 of them. What would have to happen for you to sell 2 packages? It would mean getting people on discovery calls.
If you are new, you might not know what your discovery call conversion rate is (a conversion rate is how many calls it takes to get one yes). If you don’t know what that number is then you can use 30% this is the average (and I am hoping you are giving tons of value on social media which would mean yours would be higher than this). For every 10 people you talk to 3 become clients. A little math and rounding and you get 7. For every 7 discovery

So that would mean you would need to do 7 discovery call per month to get 2 clients. Divided by each week if you did 2 discovery calls per week that would get you 2 new clients per month.
Most people will stop with goal setting here.
But now I want you to think….
That is the goal but…
What are the action steps to getting discovery calls?
- Providing value
- Cultivating a community
- You would be guest blogging and getting on interviews so you get visibility provide value and get seen as an expert.
- Closing the gap on social media. I use this term for actually interacting with people (I know that the introverts like me are not loving this part)
When you are providing value and not being the sleasy, sleazy sales person. This allows you to have a much higher conversion rate on my discovery calls and makes the calls flow smoothly because they are basically already a yes when they get on. So that you don’t even have to sell.
The best way to break down a goal from a huge goal to a manageable task is to break down the goal and see what it would really take to get to where you want to go. But this is all theory unless you put it into action.
I am huge on persistently taking action not just planning, not just theorizing, not just setting a goal putting it in a drawer and forgetting about it. Doing it.
